Line Dancing Comes To Mansbridge

Line Dancing comes to Mansbridge

Mansbridge Residents’ Association (MRA) is providing Line Dancing classes for local residents at the Mansbridge Primary School, Octavia Road. Starting on Wednesday 17th June at 7pm, the classes take place every week for a month and continue the delivery of Swaythling Housing’s promise to improve services and the rights of local residents.

Backed by Swaythling, for the last 15 years MRA has been investing its time and resources in the community, securing funding for youth workers, holiday clubs and playgrounds as well as organising a host of activities in the area to help build community spirit.

The previous activity to be provided by MRA for the local residents was Cheerleading sessions run by the Southampton Vixens squad from the local university. After a disappointing turn out for the first session, word of mouth spread and around 20 youngsters turned up each week to learn cheers chants, jumps and dances.

Hayley Dinnage, is a Swaythling resident and mother to daughters Lauren and Megan Coates. “Lauren came down and loved it. So much so, that Megan had to come down to see what she was missing out on. Neither had done anything like this before, but it was an affordable local activity which has been great for their confidence. There’s never been the opportunity for local fun exercise in the evenings. Even better, by they time they have finished, they’re worn out and go straight to sleep – no fuss!”

Elaine Walling, tells how much her daughter, Bethany, enjoyed the sessions, “After her first session, she had learnt the whole routine and of course she then had to teach it to me, so I could do it with her. She was so happy that there was something that she enjoyed and was good at. She has Cystic Fibrosis, so it’s fantastic that she can do this movement and so much more fun than physio.”

Lynette Allen, Community Involvement Officer, Swaythling: “We are very pleased to be supporting the local community through MRA and providing activities which are within the reach of most residents.“

The Line Dancing classes are held every Wednesday from 17th June at Mansbridge Primary School, Octavia Road, Mansbridge. They are aimed at all ages 8 and above and cost just 50p.
