A new Multi-Use Games Area has been created in Drayton Parslow, Buckinghamshire made possible by a £50,000 grant from the Landfill Communities Fund of Waste Recycling Group and generous donations from Turnstone Support and Windsor Housing, both part of Radian.
Turnstone Support has two houses in the small village that support eight residents with individual needs, such as learning disabilities, autism, mental health and other related needs, to lead fulfilling and independent lives. The games area will allow the residents a safe environment to exercise and enjoy playing many kinds of ball games and sports and mixing with the community. ![]()
The substantial outdoor games area was completed to deadline and officially opened during the Village Produce Association’s Annual Show. The playing surface is made of a weatherproof carpet with a sand infill, as opposed to the more unsympathetic Astroturf. The fenced sides are 3 metres high to keep balls inside the court, rising to 4 metres behind the basketball hoops. There are cricket wickets at each end and football goals which can be utilised by the entire community, including the three local schools.
Caroline Jones, Team Manager for the Autism services at Drayton Parslow said, “The service users who live at Drayton Parslow look forward to spending time with the young people of the village, using the new sports facilities on offer. It’s a great opportunity for people to get to know one another in a social setting.”
The Village Hall car park has also been resurfaced to provide marked spaces for 26 cars and give it a well-drained durable external layer, improving the conditions for people using the sports and social facilities on the site.
Commenting on the project Parish Council Chairman, Wendy Preston, said: “This is a really exciting time for the village – the Parish Council has been setting money aside for several years, and we now have a top class facility for local residents to enjoy for years to come. We received significant contributions from Turnstone Support, Windsor & District Housing Association and several generous local residents.”
