Paying your rent should be your first financial priority. It is important that you pay your rent because we rely on it to provide the services you receive.
Rent is normally charged on a Monday throughout the year and is payable in advance (note Housing Benefit is usually payable four weeks in arrear), however some tenancies are payable monthly in advance, so please check your tenancy agreement. You can let us know if you want to pay monthly. This will also need to be paid in advance. Shared Ownership or Market Rented tenants must pay their rent monthly in advance. If you need help calculating how to do this then please contact our Customer Service Centre.
If you fall into arrears then contact us as soon as possible as we may be able to help. You are responsible for paying your rent but may be able to get benefits to help with this. We can help you to claim benefits and give an estimate of what you will receive to allow you to make rent payments if there is a shortfall between the benefit and the rent we charge. We have a team of specialist Benefit Advisors here to help you! Please click here for more information.
If there is a change to your Housing Benefit, you need to let us know so we can reassess your rent contribution and help you avoid arrears.
You must have a clear rent account before you can exchange or transfer to another property.
Please remember if you do not pay your rent, you could be taken to court and you may be evicted from your home.
