Previously residents have had access to local activities through community groups such as the Mansbridge Residents' Association (MRA), but the opening of this dedicated facility continues the delivery of Swaythling Housing's promise to improve services and the rights of local residents.
The room was previously an underused space for overflow classes at Mansbridge Primary School, who now benefit from a fully refurbished space with a new toilet block attached. The arrangement ensures that the school has use of the room for two and a half days per week, whilst the local community can have access to it for the rest of the week.
Although only recently opened, there have already been many enquiries about booking the Community Room. The NHS is potentially looking to use the space and many community groups, including the MRA and children's play groups, are hoping to hire it out. Sure Start, the Government's early education, childcare, health and family support programme has booked regular time slots.
Lynette Allen, Community Involvement Officer, Swaythling: "We are delighted to be able to ensure the local community has a facility where available activities are within the reach of most residents."
