The Spring series of the Hampshire HomeBuy shows, attracted record numbers of prospective buyers, showing encouraging signs that the housing market may be on the rise at last.
After the biggest slump in the market since the housing crash of the early 90’s, signs of renewed faith in the investment in bricks and mortar from local first time buyers, will be nectar to house builders and the government alike. With new Government proposals suggesting a potential minimum deposit of only 5% necessary to secure a mortgage, hundreds of local house hunters attended the four HomeBuy shows hosted by HomesInHants.
The Southampton show alone attracted 370 visitors who took advantage of free advice, free financial assessments and to discover what homes were available within their selected areas and price ranges. The statistics produced by Radian showed that the number of visitors to the Southampton show, for example, equated to an 83% increase from the corresponding show last year, with the vast majority of interested parties made up from non-key workers, either living with family or privately renting.
Eligibility for the HomeBuy schemes is based on a household income of between £18,000 and £60,000 and not restricted to key workers, as many falsely believe. The deposit required to buy a shared ownership home is based on the value of the share being purchased, so is an achievable and affordable way for first time buyers to become home owners.
The feedback from visitors was extremely positive, Caroline from Eastleigh said, “I feel so much more clued up about my options now. The HomeBuy show is a great event and I’ll definitely be recommending it to other people!” Sophie and Dan from Portsmouth agreed, “Excellent, the staff were very knowledgeable. We’re so pleased we came”
