Local people got together for a Dedworth Action Planning Day along with staff from Radian, the local Police, Youth Services and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. Residents of Radian’s homes met to let the social housing provider ensure that the services it plans to provide in the Dedworth area are sustainable and relevant to them.
All those who attended the event at the beginning of March, freely shared their experience, knowledge and ideas about how best to build partnerships and strengthen the community of Dedworth.
Much talk centred around young people in Dedworth and identifying that more activities are needed for them. There was also discussion about activities for older people that would help those who had become excluded from the rest of the community. The most interesting ideas were about intergenerational work, so that young and old can get together to learn more from and about each other.
Local politicians also took the time to attend and Councillor George Bathurst identified how important the planning day was: “I am delighted to work in partnership with Radian; The Dedworth Action Planning day was a success with lots of enthusiasm from local agencies and residents full of ideas of how they want to make Dedworth an even better community, which was great to be part off. I am looking forward to working with Radian and local people to deliver real improvements to the area.”
To bring more colour to the Dedworth area, residents explained that they would like to see flowers and plants put into some of the many open spaces in the area.
Danny Gomm, Projects & Programme Co-ordinator, Youth Service, said: “The morning was very productive and it was nice to see so many people taking the time to discuss how the Dedworth area can be improved for its residents.”
The day was full of interest for locals, who remarked that it was great to see how all groups were interacting with one another and sharing ideas and experiences they have had in the area.
The Action Plan formed in conjunction with those who attended on the day will now be delivered, so watch the space! There are lots of ways to get involved and Radian will be getting back in touch with everyone who attended the event to review the Action Plan in 18 months time.
