Drum Housing Association held the latest in a series of community events in the heart of the Downs Park community in Clanfield, in partnership with the Police, East Hampshire District Council, Hampshire County Council and Horndean Parish Council.
The event was well attended by local residents who gave their views on how well their services are provided and what ideas they may have for the future. A BBQ was provided by local RKdia catering services which gave a well needed energy boost for those who helped maintain the community garden planted back in October 2008. As the saying goes, ‘there is no such thing as a free lunch’ but those who took part, did so with such enthusiasm that the result of their efforts was fantastic! The garden looks invigorated, bold in colour and weed free!
As well as collecting feedback on the community initiatives that have taken place over the last year, this event promoted future ‘walk-abouts’ . Walk-abouts are held in conjunction with local agencies and provide a real opportunity for the community to address local concerns by physically walking around their local area with representatives from key agencies.
Andrew Boughton, Community Project Worker at Drum Housing said, “Estate walk-abouts can be very empowering to a community. Not only are issues able to be raised, but an agreed action plan is discussed, ensuring local accountability and a way of monitoring progress in the future. It’s great we have so many agencies working together and it shows a long term commitment to this community.”
Drum Housing Association has taken to the streets to discover if families living in their temporary housing feel that the correct support is in place for them and what more Drum needs to do.
