Dr. Caroline Lucas MEP

Caroline Lucas is the Green Member of the European Parliament for South East England, and Principal Speaker for the Green Party. She was elected as one of the Green Party's first MEPs in 1999 and re-elected 2004 for a second term.

A Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety her work has included the regulation of chemicals, stricter targets on CO2 emissions and protecting consumers from GM crops. In 2006 Caroline was Parliamentary Rapporteur on the Commission Communication 'Reducing the Climate Change impact of Aviation'.

Caroline is a Member of the Committee on International Trade and her work includes being rapporteur for a report on EU/China Trade relations.

She is Green Coordinator for the Committee on Climate Change and Vice President of the Health and Consumer Intergroup, Animal Welfare Intergroup and Peace Intergroup. Caroline is also Member of the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Authority.

In addition, Caroline is Vice President of Stop the War Coalition; CND National Council Member; Director of the International Forum on Globalization; Matron of the Women’s Environmental Network; Director of the RSPCA; and Patron of Action for UN Renewal.

Caroline was winner of the Observer’s Ethical Award for the UK's most ethical politician in 2007 and Michael Kay Award for European Animal Welfare. She has also featured in the Environment Agency’s Top 100 Eco-Heroes of all time.
