My dream job has always been to fix things – if something’s not working, I like to be able to get it working. I love the challenges I face in my job; if I know that it has taken a lot to fix a front door or a window, it’s really satisfying. A typical day for me could be anything; it might be putting in double glazing, fixing a lock on the front door or changing fixings on windows and doors. Even when a job has the same description, they usually require totally different fixes.
Radian is a really good company to work for; they look after you and provide you with everything you need to do your job well. I would love to see more women in trades – if you’re capable of doing the job, then do it. I think there are more women coming into male dominated jobs than there used to be, but many can still be concerned that they might face a challenge to feel ‘accepted’ by the guys or show that you can do the job just as well as them. But if you know the job, then like me, you’ll find that you end up with trades people coming to you for advice about their own jobs.
Radian is a company full of warm and genuine people who are ambitious and driven. I started working here straight after finishing Uni, working in the Customer Service team. The team were fantastic and I loved helping the residents who would call up needing help or advice. I wanted to progress in my career but still keep the side of my job that was focused on helping people. When the Community and Involvement Assistant role came up, I was excited to apply and have the opportunity to work on big projects that really help communities. My daily role sees me supporting the Community Development Officers in their roles as well as processing invoices and undertaking research and data collection for new and existing projects. In the future, I’d like to be a Community Development Officer and my team have been really supportive of this. My role is effectively what I make it, I am encouraged to run my own projects and get out in the communities so that I can get a full understanding of the daily requirements of the role. I am probably only in the office about 60% of the time!
I joined Radian after leaving school and it has given me a great view of working life; I have been able to develop myself within the company and have been given all of the tools and techniques to succeed. Radian has a strong mission and focus on their employees as well as their customers which is reflected in their friendly and sociable working environment.
I had always heard that Radian was a good place to work as I had family and friends who worked here too so I was keen to join! I started out as an apprentice in the People Development team and after on-the-job and classroom-based learning, I am now a People Development Administrator. This means that I get involved in many projects within the People Development team, deal with enquiries and questions around our systems, spend time organising and coordinating training for colleagues before and after delivery, supporting the team and doing some design work on Adobe InDesign and Captivate. My favourite part of my job is feeling like I have really helped someone be the best they can be.
I’ve worked in grounds maintenance roles for a long time but have only recently joined Radian. I first started out working in an office, but when it shut, I decided to go out and work in the field. I’ve got my training in chainsaws, brush cutting, strimming and for the ride on mower. I absolutely love my job and find it all a bit of a buzz. Everyday is different, we might be mowing lawns one day, and edging pavements, clearing rubbish or sorting fly tipping the next. Since I’ve been here at Radian, I’ve just been treated like one of the team. I had a really buzzing first few weeks; it’s such a happy, inclusive place and I really feel like I’m part of a family – everyone just gels together really well. Every person I have met is so friendly and speaks to you no matter whether you’re in the main office or a trades person. I’m very proud to have been given the opportunity to work here and would definitely recommend it to anyone!
