In 2019, Friends of Leesland Park, a community group from Gosport, were successful in receiving funding for an outdoor gym.
The installation of the park has taken more than two years to come to fruition, with Friends of Leesland Park receiving support from Radian Group, Tesco, Hampshire County Council, The People’s Lottery, Asda, Hampshire Playing Fields Association, Gosport Borough Council, and Councillor Peter Chegwyn, to bring the gym to life.
The idea for the gym came about in response to a survey that identified Gosport as an area in need of facilities to combat unhealthy weight gain. The group were keen to find a solution to the problem and applied for funding for green exercise equipment.
“Health and wellbeing is such an important subject to us which is why we have supported this initiative. It will greatly improve the physical and mental health of the Gosport community, and help raise activity levels in the area.” – Nicole Abela, Communities and Involvement Assistant, Radian Group.
On Friday 10 January, the gym at Leesland Park was fully installed and it’s now free to use for anybody who wants to utilise the equipment.
