Cooking for Men celebrated for combatting social isolation

Our Cooking for Men course, an initiative setup to combat social isolation and encourage older men to get active in the kitchen, has been praised by local community and council members.

The scheme, which was developed by East Hampshire District Council councillor Adam Carew, in collaboration with Radian, is for men aged 60+. The project aims to teach men to prepare healthy, delicious meals, improving their physical health. During the six-week course, participants cook together and enjoy the food they’ve made which helps to combat isolation that can sometimes occur in later life. The scheme also focuses on healthy eating and has had a positive effect on the mental and physical wellbeing of those involved.

For the final session of this season’s course, Carol Bode, Radian Group’s Chair of the Board, visited Café 1759 to find out more about the initiative. Carol met the participants who have been cooking up a feast every week and enjoyed supper with them, alongside our Community Development Officer, Susi Drummond.
