Health and wellbeing during lockdown

We know coronavirus has brought a unique set of challenges to everyone’s mental and physical wellbeing, so we’ve put together our top tips and advice to help you maintain your health and wellbeing.

Keep moving

Try to stay active – it’ll benefit your physical and mental wellbeing. If you can’t get outside for your daily exercise, try working out at home. Joe Wicks, AKA ‘The Body Coach’, is live streaming a 30-minute class every weekday at 9am on his YouTube channel. This is a great way to get your children and family involved, plus it’s completely free.

Stay connected

From phone calls to text messages, video calling to emails, there’s so many ways you can keep in touch with family and friends during lockdown. Don’t forget to check in on neighbours who may be self-isolating and offer to help them out by posting mail, dropping off shopping (leaving it at their front door) or ringing them for a chat.

Manage anxiety

The world can seem a scary place these days, but there are ways to manage anxiety around COVID-19. Try to limit how often you check the news and social media, only using reputable news sources. Always follow the NHS and Government guidelines to stay safe. Don’t let fear influence your decisions, which can lead to unnecessary panic buying. Above all, stay connected to your loved ones and support one another.

Stick to a routine

It might be tempting to sleep in and stay in your pyjamas all day but try to stick to a routine even if you don’t have to. Get up at the same time every day, get dressed into daytime clothes and know what you’d like to achieve – even completing a small ‘to-do’ list will bring you a sense of achievement and help structure your day.

Caring for children

Children have also had their lives changed dramatically by the restrictions of coronavirus. To help them manage these changes, make sure they have a daily routine that includes a balance of education, offline time and exercise. Try to find ways for them to connect with friends digitally, either through a supervised video call or chat on the phone. Keep to existing bedtimes if possible – this will help their mental and physical wellbeing.

Don’t be a victim of fraud

The coronavirus is being used by some to commit fraud. Never give out personal or bank details via email or phone and regularly check your bank statement for transactions you don’t recognise. It’s good practise to destroy all receipts or post with your bank details on and don’t forget to update your computer with the latest anti-virus software.
