Housing providers VIVID, Home Group and Radian Group are collaborating to co-ordinate vital community support for one of Portsmouth’s most deprived areas.
The April Square Community Fair is being held at the Charles Dickens Community Centre on Friday 21 February. Alongside fun activities for families, 30 service providers will be available to offer advice on a wide range of support services.
The Charles Dickens ward has high levels of street crime and housing associations are coming together to implement positive change in the community:
“We’ve come together with Radian Group and Home Group as three home providers sharing a strong relationship with the community and many of the residents of Charles Dickens ward. We are starting a new conversation to engage the community in a joined-up way, including other important service providers, to acknowledge challenges and offer solutions together.” – Janice Waterman, Community Development and Digital Officer at VIVID.
Tenancy support and neighbourhood teams will be on hand during the event to discuss a range of services on offer, from money and benefits advice to mental health and employment support. They will be joined by representatives from more than 33 support services and agencies, including Portsmouth and Southern Water, Age UK, and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Radian Group’s Community Development Officer, Jacky Charman said: “Recent surveys of primary schools in the ward show children in the area don’t feel safe on their streets. By working together to support the community we hope this event will create a sense that there are many great services and agencies available to them.”
The event takes place on Friday 21 February between 2pm and 5pm; it is open to everyone.
