Friday 29 June marked National Employability Day and 2018 saw the biggest celebration yet. Organisations up and down the country celebrated the work they do to support people into employment with a huge array of grass roots workshops and events, so this was the perfect opportunity for our own award-winning Employment Support Team to do what they do best.
We partnered with Google Digital Garage to offer three workshops over the course of the day in Southampton’s Civic Centre. Led by a Google digital expert, the workshops covered CV writing, social media for business use and, most eagerly anticipated, the #IamRemarkable workshop, designed to empower people to find their confidence and believe in their own abilities.
Whilst the feedback from all of the courses was overwhelmingly positive, it was the last session which seemed to have the most profound impact on the attendees. One went on to describe it as “a very poignant, challenging and insightful session on helping us to recognise our own value and purpose and to unashamedly own it.”
Another said: “I learned a lot from the self-promotion skills; letting out my greatest insecurity and being confident about it. More workshops like this should definitely be encouraged.”
Our Employment Support Team’s Rachael Mallinson, who supported on the day, said:
“The workshops went really smoothly, everything was well organised and well prepared and it was so great to work with Google. They’re really keen to work with us again and we’re already in discussions about how we can collaborate to deliver more amazing employment training and opportunities at Southampton Job Fair on July 16, in partnership with Southampton City Council.”
The July event, called Fuller Working Lives, will be specifically tailored to the over 45s and will run a host of workshops on subjects like transferable skills, CV writing and job searching. If you’d like to find out more and sign up, visit the Eventbrite page.
