Radian welcomed John Glen, Conservative MP for Salisbury and South Wiltshire, to Riverdown Park, near Salisbury city centre, on Friday 3rd February. Radian’s Chief Executive, Lindsay Todd provided Mr. Glen with a tour of the development and insights into Radian’s work as a housing association and housebuilder.
As one of the south’s leading housing associations, Radian’s CEO was able to provide Mr Glen with details on Radian’s future plans for delivering homes of all tenures to meet the full range of housing needs in Salisbury. They also discussed the issues currently facing Salisbury and Radian’s contribution to the area beyond housing in terms of social value, through the work they are doing via their community initiatives and Employment, Support and Training (EST) programme.
Following the successful launch of Riverdown Park in April 2014, Radian is continuing to build homes on the development in partnership with David Wilson Homes and Barratt Homes. 124 of the 150 affordable rent homes have been successfully let so far, with a further 26 due for completion in Spring 2017.
Radian is committed to delivering affordable homes of various tenures for local people and has made this a priority by providing 50 Shared Ownership homes at Riverdown Park. To ensure that the homes benefit the local community, shared owners must have a local connection to Wiltshire.
Speaking about his visit, Mr Glen confirmed that he is confident in the future of housing in Salisbury with the commitment shown by Radian, he said: “It has been a real pleasure to meet the team at Radian as well as some of the residents of Riverdown Park. It is clear from our conversations that Radian is providing excellent affordable housing for the area and I’m pleased to see that they have long-term plans in place to continue with this.
“I find it particularly reassuring to hear Mr Todd explain the social value Radian has provided to the area, it is evident to see how this is helping many of my constituents through skills and training opportunities and community initiatives.
“Radian is more than a social housing provider and goes above and beyond its role by providing various services to support tenants."
Lindsay Todd, Chief Executive said: “It was great to have the opportunity to talk to Mr Glen about Radian’s housing provision and community support in Salisbury and how we are looking forward to continuing our work in the area.
“So far we have provided over 700 homes across Mr Glen’s constituency, predominantly in areas such as Bemerton Heath, Bishopdown Farm and Harnham.
“We pride ourselves on investing in people through our EST programme, helping to support a number of local people into both jobs and training opportunities.”
Wiltshire is one of Radian’s priority areas for future development, and is set to deliver over 200 new homes in the area in the next few years, including over 100 homes at Longhedge, and 49 homes at Kingsgate in Amesbury.
