Responding to the Prime Minister's announcement on the National Planning Policy Framework, Mick Sweeney, Chief Executive of Radian, said:
"Yesterday’s (Monday 5 March) announcement on the National Planning Policy Framework demonstrates that tackling the housing crisis is rightly a clear priority for Theresa May’s government. We welcome this focus from the government.
"We hope that yesterday’s announcement will see the planning process simplified and streamlined, and whilst it is imperative that the planning process is improved, for too long we simply haven’t built enough homes to meet the needs of the country.
"Although we support the building of more homes on underused retail and industrial sites, we are disappointed to see the government shying away from addressing the green belt issue.
"The tightening of rules around viability assessments would be a welcome change to the system. The housing crisis cannot be solved when developers skirt around the building of the affordable homes that are so desperately needed in our communities.
"At Radian, we are determined to play our part in tackling the housing crisis. Like all organisations in our sector, our profit goes directly back into improving our services for our communities and providing more affordable homes, and we look forward to working with local and national government to help deliver the homes the country needs."
