Following Prime Minister Theresa May’s speech at Conservative Party Conference today, Mick Sweeney, Chief Executive at Radian, said:
“We welcome Theresa May’s announcement today that the government will provide an extra £2bn for affordable housing, which she will encourage housing associations as well as councils to bid for.
“Housing associations have stepped up in recent years to help tackle the housing crisis, but it is evident that as a country we are not building enough homes to meet the needs of first time buyers, those who are in need of affordable housing, or those who choose to rent privately. It is vital that we ensure that homes are affordable to all sections of our communities, especially for those who need them most, so we welcome Theresa May’s pledge to include affordable housing in this additional funding.
“At Radian, we deliver homes of a variety of tenures across the south of England, and we remain committed to doing everything we can to provide more high quality homes for more people. This additional funding will support us, and others in our sector, in doing this.
“We also welcome the Prime Minister’s pledge to invest a further £10bn in the Help to Buy equity loan scheme. As the Help to Buy Agent for the south, we are delighted that we will be able to support more first time buyers in taking their first step onto the property ladder.”
