Making affordable living a little sweeter with new homes on former chocolate factory

We’re working with regeneration specialist Generator South West to build 36 affordable homes on the site of the former Elizabeth Shaw chocolate factory in Bristol.

Due for completion by early 2022, the new homes have received grant funding from Homes England and will consist of 15 one-bedroom and 21 two-bedroom apartments that will all be available for shared ownership.

Since November 2019 Yarlington has partnered with Radian Group and Stephen Lodge, Executive Director of Development and Strategic Asset Management for Radian Group commented: “Bristol is an expanding city and the need to provide more homes is so important. It’s great to be working in partnership with Generator South West and Homes England to help ease this pressure for affordable homes by transforming a site that’s stood derelict for many years.

“The former chocolate factory was such an influential building and an iconic feature of the community. To help ease this transition and keep part of the industrial heritage, some of the original factory buildings are being retained which will bring the area back to life as well as increasing home ownership for people.”

The new development will feature 140 homes in total including the shared ownership apartments, consisting of 44 houses and 96 apartments. In addition to homes, the development will provide services for the local community including a dedicated community hub, starter units for businesses and a café/bar. The site also benefits from being directly opposite the Bristol to Bath railway path and future residents will be just a ten-minute cycle from the centre of Bristol.

The new apartments continue our commitment to building 500 homes in Bristol, expanding on recently announced developments including 75 affordable homes at Castle Park View, 42 apartments on Dean Street and another 31 homes at Speedwell swimming baths.
