Social isolation is difficult for everyone but it’s even harder for those who have no support network during this time. Social isolation and distancing is particularly difficult for the elderly and vulnerable, as well as those with few family or those whose family are quarantined themselves. Getting food and supplies can be difficult, and it’s not always easy for some people to find out what support is available to them in their area.
To help solve these problems, our fantastic community team have developed a Buddy Framework to offer telephone support to our most isolated customers.
The Buddy Framework provides a support network to those who need it. It provides both emotional support and signposting to help available in the individual’s local community.
Everybody in the team is gathering information about support and initiatives available in different communities, in order to create a knowledge bank of help available to those in need.
Although the measures imposed by the government are medically necessary, we know that isolation will have an impact on people, particularly the elderly, in terms of mental health and increased loneliness. The Buddy Framework has been set up to try and help combat these issues. The ongoing project will last for as long as our communities need it.
