Radian’s Employment, Support and Training (EST) team has been shortlisted for Team of the Year in The News Business Excellence Awards.
The event, run by The Portsmouth News has 15 categories, including Apprentice of the Year, Community Contribution, International Development and Large Business of the Year.
In September 2012, Radian recognised that unemployment amongst residents was running at a high level, with 46% of residents accessing the national welfare benefit system.
In order to support their residents and give them the opportunities to improve their lives and tap into their potential, Radian created the Employment, Support & Training (EST) team.
Chris Adams, Employment and Training Manager heads up the team of 25. He said:
“We are delighted to be shortlisted for the Business Excellence Awards. United by our mission to create opportunities and change lives, our team has supported 676 people into employment and provided training to over 2,000. To support our residents, the EST team offers a range of practical help and advice to get people into employment. We also offer tailored training programmes to help improve skills, boost self-esteem and confidence. To be shortlisted for the awards is a great honour and recognises the hard work and determination of the team supporting our residents to flourish.”
Such was the success of the team, that in 2015 a new in-house self-employment program was introduced, helping individuals start their own business and realise their entrepreneurial ideas. With the team’s support, 240 people have completed the program and over 100 people have created their own business.
The winners of the 2019 awards will be announced at a black-tie dinner, held at the Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday 1 February.
All winners from The News’ Business Excellence Awards 2019 will automatically go forward to the shortlist of the JP South Business Awards held at the Grand Hotel in Brighton.
